OMC1 localizes along oocyte chromosomes together with REC8 cohesin and helps prevent its premature loss (IMAGE)
Caption
By preserving chromosome cohesion from fetal life through adulthood, OMC1 supports accurate chromosome segregation during oocyte maturation. Loss of OMC1 causes young oocytes to develop cohesion defects resembling those associated with reproductive aging.
