Natural products collection unearths an antimalarial compound

A team of scientists led by chemist Ben Shen, Ph.D., of The Wertheim UF Scripps Institute, has found a potential antimalarial compound within the institute’s natural products collection, one of the largest of its kind in the world. Dr. Shen, left, sorts through a tray of freeze-dried microbial strains with Dong Yang, Ph.D., a co-author on the study.
