Blumberg and Oh (IMAGE)

(From left) Rutgers physicists Girsh Blumberg and Seongshik Oh stand beside a molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) system, which grows extremely thin layers of material. In their study published in Physical Review Letters, they and their colleagues used these samples and invisible light to investigate particles trapped inside tiny magnetic whirlpools in superconductors, materials that can carry electricity without losing energy as heat.
