An extract of Lorenzo Dow Turner's interview with Mrs Emma Benoit, taken in 1935. Benoit (1868–1939) was a sharecropper from the Lafayette area of South Louisiana. She had 16 children, four of whom were adopted, and had been a widow for around twenty years at the time of recording.
