Each coloured point represents a starting setup for an AI model: blue leads to one training outcome, orange to another. Together, they form a striking butterfly-like pattern, with orange points scattered throughout blue regions and blue points throughout orange regions. Moving clockwise, successive close-ups of the areas indicated by the black lines reveal this intricate mixing at ever finer scales. This shows how even tiny differences in the starting setup can lead to different training outcomes, making them difficult to predict and reproduce.
