An artist’s rendition of an imagined rocky exoplanet with an atmosphere. In a new study, University of Washington researchers built a virtual Earth that realistically models the exchange of chemicals between the core, mantle, crust, surface and atmosphere. The model can help astronomers study real exoplanets and determine whether their atmospheres show evidence of alien life.
