A Compact Slow-Light Silicon Modulator for Faster, More Energy-Efficient Data Transfer (IMAGE)
Caption
Researchers at the Institute of Science Tokyo and collaborating institutions have demonstrated a compact slow-light silicon modulator with a built-in electro-optic equalizer. With a core just 320 µm long, the device achieved data rates of 180 Gb/s without digital signal processing equalization and 200 Gb/s using a low-complexity 11-tap digital equalizer, offering a potential route to high-speed, energy-efficient optical connections for future AI data centers.
