Arcturus laser lab at HHU (IMAGE)
Caption
The ARCTURUS laser at HHU can generate intense electron beams for R&D towards x-ray flashes in the so-called “water window”. To do this, green laser pulses pump titanium-sapphire crystals, in which high-intensity laser pulses in the near-infrared range are generated. In turn, these laser pulses drive plasma waves, generating high-energy electron beams that should, in the final step, produce intense x-ray flashes on the basis of the free-electron laser principle.
