Comparing Glacial and Interglacial Periods in the Tropics (2 of 3) (IMAGE)
Caption
Two cave explorers traverse a plunge pool in the Nasib Bagus streamway on route to Sarawak Chamber in Gunung Mulu National Park, Malaysia. Large amounts of tropical rainfall have created impressive cave passages that can serve as important archives of past changes in regional climate. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the May 3, 2012, issue of Science Express, published by AAAS. The paper, by Anna Nele Meckler at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, Calif., and colleagues was titled, "Interglacial Hydroclimate in the Tropical West Pacific Through the Late Pleistocene."
