Lithium Flow in a Lithium-Ion Battery (VIDEO) Ohio State University This video is under embargo. Please login to access this video. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Caption Using a neutron beam, chemists and engineers at The Ohio State University were able to track the flow of lithium atoms into and out of an electrode in real time as a battery charged and discharged. This visualization shows the level of charge in the electrode rising and falling as the battery charged and discharged. The study could one day help explain why rechargeable batteries lose capacity over time, or sometimes even catch fire.
