Co-founder of DataDyne Joel Selanikio, pictured, developed EpiSurveyor, a free, open-source software program that enables public health workers to easily create handheld data entry forms, collect data on mobile devices and transfer the information back to a desktop or laptop for analysis. For this innovation and its impact on the developing world, the Lemelson-MIT Program has awarded Selanikio the 2009 $100,000 Lemelson-MIT Award for Sustainability, an award that recognizes and supports inventors or innovators whose work enhances economic opportunities and community well-being.
