Trawl samples from large herring shoals discovered by OAWRS providing ground truth on the species and characteristics of the fish. The lengths of the herring were very uniform with a mean of 26.7 cm. This image relates to an article that appeared in the March 27, 2009, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. Nicholas Makris at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and colleagues was titled, "Critical Population Density Triggers Rapid Formation of Vast Oceanic Fish Shoals."
