A Part of the Readout Electronics of a Camera Which Monitors Particle Cancer Therapy (IMAGE)
Caption
This is a part of the readout electronics of a camera which monitors particle cancer therapy. The camera was developed by Dresden’s research alliance OncoRay. Cancer cells are bombarded with charged particles. The interaction of the radiation and the tissue create highly energetic photons which are captured by the camera and can be traced back to their origin. This allows physicians to see where the particle rays discharge their energy in the body and can, thus, adjust the radiation, if necessary. The depicted electronic system was developed specifically by the researchers and controls ultramodern semiconductor detectors, the heart of the camera.
