Byzovaya 2007 field operation. Ludovic Slimak is rock knapping. All experiments were realized in situ, employing the same categories of siliceous rocks as those recovered at the Byzovaya site and employing locally available knapping tools, such as varieties of pebbles from the Pechora River. This image relates to an article that appeared in the May 13, 2011, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. Ludovic Slimak of CNRS and Université de Toulouse le Mirail in Toulouse, France, and colleagues, was titled, "Late Mousterian Persistence Near the Arctic Circle."
