Swirling Smoke Rises from Saskatchewan Fires (IMAGE)
Caption
NASA's Aqua satellite collected this natural-color image with the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer, MODIS, instrument on Aug. 17, 2014. Actively burning areas, detected by MODIS's thermal bands, are outlined in red. From those areas, brown smoke rises and swirls northward into the Northern Territories of Canada.
