The upconversion nanoparticles convert near-infrared light into ultraviolet light, inducing the cleavage of linker and triggering the on-demand release of Cas9 with subsequent gene edting. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the April 3rd, 2019, issue of Science Advances, published by AAAS. The paper, by Y. Pan at Nanjing University in Nanjing, China, and colleagues was titled, "Near-infrared upconversion activated CRISPR-Cas9 system: A remote-controlled gene editing platform."
