This image shows faceted growth morphology of sapphire nanowire. The liquid-solid interface intersects the triple junction at the (0-114) and the (01-12) facets, which undergo oscillatory reactions during VLS growth. This image relates to an article that appeared in the Oct. 22, 2010, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. Sang Ho Oh of Pohang University of Science and Technology in Pohang, Korea, and colleagues is titled, "Oscillatory Mass Transport in Vapor-Liquid-Solid Growth of Sapphire Nanowires."
