During cell division, components of the nuclear envelope, the membrane that surrounds the nucleus (shown in green above), intermix with its neighboring organelle, the endoplasmic reticulum. One team of newly announced Allen Distinguished Investigators is investigating how perturbing steps of nuclear formation (bottom two images) affects the endoplasmic reticulum.
