Dynamically variable negative stiffness structures (2 of 3) (IMAGE)
Caption
This demo unit was used by Researchers at HRL Laboratory's Sensors and Materials Lab to demonstrate an active variable stiffness vibration isolator capable of 100x stiffness changes and millisecond actuation times, independent of the static load. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the Feb. 19, 2016, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by C.B. Churchill at HRL Laboratories LLC in Malibu, CA, and colleagues was titled, 'Dynamically variable negative stiffness structures.'
