Galaxies of similar size to the Sombrero Galaxy may offer astronomers their first glimpse of a pair of supermassive black holes merging. This hat-shaped galaxy is large enough that its merging black holes would yield detectable gravitational waves, but not so large that the black holes would merge too quickly.
