Improving Plasma Confinement (IMAGE)
Caption
Surfaces of constant plasma pressure in the cross-section of the C-Mod tokamak for an I-mode plasma. In the hottest core region, the pressure exceeds 4 atmospheres. The volume average pressure is over1.5 atmospheres, more than 50 percent of the central pressure expected in the ITER device, and close to the current tokamak world record of 1.8 atmospheres, also attained on C-Mod
