The New Shape of a Hydrated Electron (1 of 2) (IMAGE)
Caption
All water molecules are within 6.0 angstrom of the center of mass of the electron for a representative configuration. The wire mesh outer contour encloses 90 percent of the electron's charge density, and the opaque inner contour encloses 50 percent. This image relates to an article that appeared in the July 2, 2010, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. R.E. Larsen in University of California, Los Angeles in Los Angeles, Calif., and colleagues, is titled, "Does the Hydrated Electron Occupy a Cavity?"
