A Time and a Place for Scent (2 of 2) (IMAGE)
Caption
This image shows axonal projection patterns of olfactory sensory neurons expressing the same odorant receptor gene in wild-type (left) and mutant (right) mice. The neural activity of the olfactory sensory neurons in the mutant mice has been silenced, resulting in an aberrant projection pattern. This image relates to a paper that appeared in Apr. 4, 2014, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by Limei Ma at Stowers Institute for Medical Research in Kansas City, Mo., and colleagues was titled, 'A Developmental Switch of Axon Targeting in the Continuously Regenerating Mouse Olfactory System.'
