Sunflecks and plant efficiency (IMAGE)

Understory leaves are subjected to high light flecks where the solar beam passes through gaps in the upper forest canopy cover, as shown on the left. Leaves that grow under these conditions are more efficient in using the sunflecks than leaves that grow under homogeneous shade, as shown by the induction curves on the right.
