Regulatory B Cells Lacking in Rheumatoid Arthritis (1 of 1) (IMAGE)
Caption
Whereas in healthy individuals regulatory B cells maintain a balance between T helper (Th)1, Th17 and regulatory T (Treg) cells, regulatory B cells are unable to exert the same effect in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the Feb. 20, 2013, issue of Science Translational Medicine, published by AAAS. The paper, by Fabian Flores-Borja at University College London in London, UK, and colleagues was titled, “CD19+CD24hiCD38hi B Cells Maintain Regulatory T Cells While Limiting TH1 and TH17 Differentiation.”
