Coiling of a 305 μm nylon 6,6 monofilament sewing thread by twist insertion. After the initial coil is nucleated, twist insertion causes coils to propagate outwards from the nucleation site. This video relates to a paper that appeared in the Feb. 21, 2014, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by Carter S. Haines at the University of Texas at Dallas in Richardson, Texas, and colleagues was titled, "Artificial Muscles from Fishing Line and Sewing Thread."
