NASA's AIRS (Atmospheric Infrared Sounder) instrument on the NASA Aqua satellite captured an image of Super Typhoon Nida on Nov. 28 that clearly showed Nida's eye, and surrounding it, very strong, cold, thunderstorm cloud tops (purple) near -63F. The blue areas are around -27F.
