In a systematic review of the worldwide published data on "Venous thromboembolism (VTE) in COVID-19 patients", researchers from the Department of Medicine I (MedUni Vienna), provide an in-depth analysis on the risk of VTE in patients hospitalised for COVID-19. While hospitalized patients at general wards have a VTE risk between 5 and 11%, the risk of developing deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism in critically ill patients is 18 to 28%.
