Electromechanical devices have become increasingly small and complex, but the high number of required components is a limiting factor. Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) hydrogels have immense potential for use in electromechanical devices, but their practical applications have been challenging until now. This study taps into the potential of hydrogels driven by oscillating chemical reactions to create the first self-actuated, single-component pump.
