Migrating eels take on a silvery hue and their sensory systems change; their eyes enlarge and the receptors on their lateral line become visible. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the June 09, 2017, issue of Science Advances, published by AAAS. The paper, by A. Cresci at Rosenstiel School of Marine & Atmospheric Science in Miami, Fla., and colleagues was titled, "Glass eels (Anguilla Anguilla) have a magnetic compass linked to the tidal cycle."
