Richmond-Petersburg Turnpike (IMAGE)
Caption
The Richmond-Petersburg Turnpike in Virginia began early in 1958 as a response to rapid growth and suburbanization. By the time the highway opened in July 1958, the U.S. Congress had authorized federal funding for a national interstate highway system. The turnpike was incorporated into that system and became part of Interstate 95. Courtesy of the Library of Virginia.
