Bats Optimize Their Sonar by Casting it Aside (2 of 4) (IMAGE)
Caption
This is an Egyptian fruit bat landing on a baobab. These bats exhibit an optimal localization strategy, by emitting pairs of clicks that are alternately directed to the right or to the left of the target. This image relates to an article that appeared in the February 5, 2010, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. Y. Yovel at Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel and colleagues, was titled, "Optimal Localization by Pointing Off Axis."
