This is a reconstruction of a ptyctodontid fish, one of the groups of placoderms studied from which well-preserved muscles were found. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the June 13, 2013, issue of Science Express, published by AAAS. The paper, by Kate Trinajstic at Curtin University in Perth, WA, Australia, and colleagues was titled, "Fossil Musculature of the Most Primitive Jawed Vertebrates."
