Nanoparticles coated with adhesive and therapeutic proteins attach to the surface of white blood cells, and destroy cancer cells they encounter within the bloodstream to prevent metastasis. This is especially useful when cancer cells are released due to surgery. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the July 24th, 2019, issue of Science Advances, published by AAAS. The paper, by N. Jyotsana at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN, and colleagues was titled, "Minimal dosing of leukocyte targeting TRAIL decreases triple-negative breast cancer metastasis following tumor resection."
