Working at the Bronx Zoo’s Wildlife Health Center, Dr. Denise McAloose, Chief Pathologist for the Wildlife Conservation Society (center), examines a tiger blood smear with Russian health experts Dr. Irina Korotkova (left) and Mikhail Goncaruk (right). Health experts from WCS and several Russian organizations helped confirm the presence of distemper (a viral pathogen that afflicts dogs and several wildlife species) in Siberian (Amur) tigers in the wild with samples from the Russian Far East. The results were presented this week in the Russian Far East city of Ussurisk.
