Caption
The map was built by sectioning a rat heart using a unique knife-edge scanning microscope (Strateos, Inc.) to generate several terabytes of image data, followed by image processing using custom analysis software (MBF Biosciences), then annotating the images for anatomical features of the heart and positions of thousands of individual neurons located within the intrinsic cardiac nervous system (UCF and TJU), and finally building a 3D model. This video is part of the news release titled "The First 3D Map of the Heart's Neurons."
