Large (~0.75mile diameter) melt lake that is just one of the many supraglacial lakes that form on the ice sheet’s surface during the period of strong summer melt. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the Nov. 30, 2012, issue of Science Express, published by AAAS. The paper, by A. Shepherd at The University of Leeds in Leeds, UK, and colleagues was titled, "A Reconciled Estimate of Ice-Sheet Mass Balance."
