This is an artist's rendering of the Hobby-Eberly Telescope at McDonald University outfitted for the Hobby-Eberly Telescope Dark Energy Experiment, HETDEX. Faint light from distant galaxies is reflected from the segmented mirror into an optical array (top) and funneled through fiber optic cables (green) into spectrographs mounted in towers to the sides of the telescope for analysis.
