Loose fragments of adhesive with embedded turquoise mosaic tiles. This material is associated with a collection of Mixteca-style turquoise mosaics held by the Smithsonian Institution-National Museum of the American Indian. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the June 13, 2018, issue of Science Advances, published by AAAS. The paper, by A.M. Thibodeau at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa., and colleagues was titled, "Was Aztec and Mixtec turquoise mined in the American Southwest?."
