Dr. Timothy Swager of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology is the 2007 winner of the $500,000 Lemelson-MIT Prize for his advancements in molecular wires, which are currently employed in explosives detection and have potential applications in healthcare, environmental protection, and security. Here he displays Fido Explosives Detector from Nomadics, now a unit of ICx Technologies. Fido is a bomb-detection device that uses Swager's amplified chemical sensors to detect TNT vapors. US soldiers are using this device in Iraq.
