Honey, I Shrunk the TV Antenna (1 of 3) (IMAGE)
Caption
This is a nanoscale source of "collimated" light, whose rays are nearly parallel. A quantum dot drives an optical Yagi-Uda antenna giving a highly directed beam of single photons. This image relates to an article that appeared in the Aug. 20, 2010, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. Alberto Curto of the Institut de Ciencies Fotoniques in Barcelona, Spain, and colleagues was titled, "Unidirectional Emission of a Quantum Dot Coupled to a Nanoantenna."
