This image, dated Jan. 12, 2008, shows both SN2007uy and SN2008D (the bright spot near the northern tip of the galaxy) two days after the discovery of SN2008D. This image relates to an article that appeared in the July 24, 2008, issue of Science Express, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. Paolo Mazzali and colleagues at the Max-Planck Institut fur Astrophysik in Garching, Germany, was titled "The Metamorphosis of Supernova SN 2008D/XRF 080109: A Link Between Supernovae and GRBs/Hypernovae."
