This shows the growth of silicalite-1 seed crystals on a substrate into a large crystal (or eventually a large membrane) while preserving the original channel orientation. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the Dec. 16, 2011, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by T.C.T. Pham at Sogang University in Seoul, Korea, and colleagues, was titled, “Growth of Uniformly Oriented Silica MFI and BEA Zeolite Films on Substrates.”
