A Midgut Cell Undergoes Division (VIDEO)
Caption
A midgut cell nucleus travels up from the basal layer to the apical layer to divide. A long protrusion remains tethered to the basal layer, growing thinner and then splitting in two. After the cell divides, one daughter cell nucleus uses this protrusion to quickly travel back down, while the other extends a thin filipodium to more slowly make the trip.
