3-D Imaging Guides Femtosecond Laser in Cataracts Removal (4 of 10) (IMAGE)
Caption
This is a diagram of the optical and mechanical interface between the laser system and the eye. The femtosecond (Fs) laser and optical coherence tomography (OCT) beam share the same optical path, providing an exact co-registration of the OCT image with the laser segmentation patterns. This image relates to an article that appeared in the Nov. 17, 2010, issue of Science Translational Medicine, published by AAAS. The study, by Daniel V. Palanker of Stanford University in Stanford, Calif., and colleagues, was titled, "Femtosecond Laser-Assisted Cataract Surgery."
