Watching HIV Jump from Cell to Cell (2 of 6) (VIDEO)
Caption
High speed imaging of HIV transfer across a virological synapse. Movie begins with a still view of two T cells with transmitted light and an outline of a spot where a synaptic button has formed between them. The movie then shows the movement of fluorescent viral protein into the synaptic button, followed by transfer of material from the button into the target cells. Note the movie focuses on the movement of the viral protein without indicating the outlines of the recipient cell. Elapsed time is depicted in minutes:seconds. This video relates to an article that appeared in the March 27, 2009, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. Wolfgang Hubner of Mount Sinai School of Medicine, and colleagues was titled, "Quantitative 3-D Video Microscopy of HIV Transfer Across T Cell Virological Synapses."
