Gene expression in mosquitoes can be silenced by systemic injection of double-stranded RNA. This image relates to an article that appeared in the March 11, 2010, issue of Science Express, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. Kumar of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, National Institutes of Health in Rockville, Md., and colleagues, was titled, "A Peroxidase/Dual Oxidase System Modulates Midgut Epithelial Immunity in Anopheles gambiae."
