Direct Quantitative Measurement of the C=O⋅⋅⋅H-C Bond by Atomic Force Microscopy (IMAGE)
Caption
Atomic configuration of the microscope tip interacting with the upright molecule on the surface. The very weak measured interaction energy is a result of the molecular hydrogens' interplay with the tip electrostatic potential (negative (red) and positive (blue)). This material relates to a paper that appeared in the 12 May 2017, issue of Science Advances, published by AAAS. The paper, by S. Kawai at National Institute for Materials Science in Tsukuba, Japan, and colleagues was titled, "Direct quantitative measurement of the C=O⋅⋅⋅H-C bond by atomic force microscopy."
