A team of scientists from the University of Miami and NOAA Fisheries Service has solved a conundrum that has stumped marine biologists for years -- how to accurately count reef fish. It sounds simple, but the task is actually complex and critical in helping to evaluate the state of our oceans, coral reefs and the marine life that populate them. The results of this study help to support stock assessments of exploited species, evaluate "no-take" policies, and assess populations of reef fish for better long-term management.
