Fires and Snow in the Caucasus Mountains

The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) instrument that flies onboard NASA's Aqua satellite captured an image of fires and smoke in Republic of Dagestan, Russia on March 19, 2012, at 10:05 UTC (6:05 a.m. EDT. Dagestan is located north of the snow-covered Greater Caucasus Mountains and east of Georgia. The fires are designated in red and smoke from the fires appears as a light brown color, while clouds appear in white.
